Spelling

At Kerrimuir, we have a strong focus on Spelling throughout the school. As a school, phonemic awareness is a big part of our spelling program. Spelling Journals are used to record all spelling work such as syllables, blends and rhyming words for lower grades and word origins and root words for upper grades. Explicit, systemic teaching is a major part of this program, and it is intertwined with reading and writing to form a powerful and effective pedagogy.
